Begin your adventure as a Pokémon Trainer by choosing one of three partner Pokémon: Grookey, Scorbunny, or Sobble. Then embark on a journey in the Galar region, where you’ll challenge the troublemakers of Team Yell, while unraveling the mystery behind the Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta! Explore the Wild Area, a vast expanse of land where the player can freely control the camera. Team up with three other players locally or online in the multiplayer co-op Max Raid Battles* in which players will face off against gigantic and super-strong Pokémon known as Dynamax Pokémon.

Continue your Pokémon Shield adventure in The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra, two new areas to explore that will be added to the Galar region as part of the Pokémon Shield Expansion Pass! Each area offers a different adventure, where you’ll be able to visit the far reaches of the Galar region and meet the people and Pokémon that live there. Welcome to the brand-new Isle of Armor, a vast, lone island located off the shores of the Galar region that's brimming with nature: wave-battered beaches, forests, bogs, caves and dunes are just a few of its natural features. There's also a dojo further inland where you can take up an apprenticeship under a Pokémon Trainer and train alongside your Pokémon.

New Pokémon:

All sorts of Legendary Pokémon not featured in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will make their appearance, including Kubfu and Urshifu! You'll encounter new Gigantamax forms for Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon, Venusaur and Blastoise. Additionally, you'll encounter regional forms of Slowpoke and Slowbro, as well as familiar Pokémon known from other regions.

New characters:

Featuring a vibrant cast of characters such as dojo master Mustard, who'll be showing you the ropes, and your rival-in-training, Klara!

A wide range of clothing items:

You can enjoy an expanded selection of clothing items to brighten up your adventure, with more than 100 new items available across The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.

A new type of battle: Restricted Sparring:

Introducing Restricted Sparring, a type of battle where you must fight under specific conditions using specific Pokémon types. This could be the big moment for Pokémon you wouldn't normally choose!

New moves:

You'll have the chance to teach your Pokémon all-new moves like Burning Jealousy and Grassy Slide!

Pokémon Shield: The Crown Tundra:

Your journey takes you to the Crown Tundra, where the falling snow carpets the land in silver-white. In this realm of extreme cold and towering snowy peaks, small communities endure by clinging together. Lead an expedition across these snow-swept plains, delve into Pokémon Dens only ever glimpsed in Max Raid Battles, and more!

New Pokémon:

Legendary Pokémon never before seen in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield make an appearance, including Calyrex, Regieleki, Regidrago, Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres. The Crown Tundra is host to many Pokémon, both regional forms with a special appearance unique to Galar as well as Pokémon known from other regions.

New characters:

Upon arriving you'll encounter Peony, who came to the Crown Tundra to verify the rumours of Legendary Pokémon he's heard and tasks you with leading the expedition. Many more unique and colourful characters await!

A new form co-op play:

Features a new gameplay mode called a Dynamax Adventure that enables you to explore Pokémon Dens in the Crown Tundra with other players. Legendary Pokémon featured in past Pokémon titles are lurking in the shadows deep within, so it's time to team up with your friends and get exploring!

Get ready to discover Galar, an expansive region with diverse environments, from a peaceful countryside and contemporary cities to a thick forest and snow-covered mountains. The people and Pokémon who live here work together closely to develop the industries within it.

Throughout your journey, you’ll have the opportunity to visit various Gyms in your quest to become Champion! You won’t be alone though, as Galar is home to newly discovered Pokémon that you can choose to be your very first partner!

Meet Your First Partner Pokémon!:

Your adventure in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield begins when you choose one of three new Pokémon!

Grookey, a Grass-type Chimp Pokémon, is mischievous and full of boundless curiosity.

Bursting with energy is Scorbunny, a Fire-type Rabbit Pokémon who’s always running about.

The stealthy Sobble, a Water-type Water Lizard Pokémon, shoots out attacks as it hides itself in water.

Participate in Max Raid Battles with other Trainers:

Max Raid Battles are a new battle format that takes place in the Wild Area, in which the player will team up with three other Trainers to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon. Trainers will then get a chance to catch the wild Dynamax Pokémon if they manage to defeat it—but it won’t go down easily.

The Dynamax Phenomenon:

Dynamax is a phenomenon unique to specific locations in the Galar region, where Pokémon can take on gigantic appearances during battle, and it’s an integral part of Pokémon battles in the region.

Pokémon from the Galar region are able to Dynamax, and when they do, they become tremendously strong and receive a boost to their power.

Explore the Wild Area:

The Wild Area is a vast expanse of land in the Galar region with untamed wilderness. It is full of nature and connects several different towns and cities. Trainers will find a greater variety of Pokémon living in the Wild Area than anywhere else in the Galar region.

Max Raid Battles are a new battle format that takes place in the Wild Area, in which the player will team up with up to three other Trainers online* or via local wireless** to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon. Trainers will then get a chance to catch the wild Dynamax Pokémon if they manage to defeat it – but it won’t go down easily.

The Legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta:

These are the Legendary Pokémon that will be featured in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. They are shrouded in mystery and are even unknown to those who live in the Galar region. ZACIAN - Zacian attacks so gracefully that its movements can even captivate its opponents. It holds what appears to be a sword in its mouth. ZAMAZENTA - Zamazenta’s regal and majestic movements overwhelm any opponents that dare face it. Its body is covered in what seems to be a shield.

People and Pokémon of the Galar Region:

As a resident of the Galar region, players will embark on an adventure to become the Champion and meet many people and Pokémon along the way.

Many different species of Pokémon call the Galar region home. Much is unknown about the biology of these Pokémon, so researchers are working diligently to discover more information.

Poké Ball Plus:

You can use certain functions of the Poké Ball Plus accessory (sold separately), allowing you to take a Pokémon out for a stroll through the real world with you! If you spend some quality time with a favourite Pokémon of yours, then something good might happen!
