Introduction: The Maya was a highly developed civilization known for its unique art. Complex architecture, sophisticated mathematics and advanced knowledge of the visible universe. At the heart of their society was the mysterious Tzolk'in - a 260 day calender that used the movement of the planets to predict the right time to plant seeds, perform ceremonies and build monuments. Will you become one of the Ajaw, the leaders of the Mayan tribes, worshipping the gods and leading your civilization to prosperity? The centre of the game is the Tzolk'in calender - a set of gears that rotate through the rounds of the game, Your planning will need to account for a continually changing game board. Harvest crops, extract resources, build monuments and beware the wrath of the gods! Tzolkin: The Mayan Calendar presents a new game mechanism: dynamic worker placement. Players representing different Mayan tribes place their workers on giant connected gears, and as the gears rotate they take the workers to different action spots. Master the cycles of time in this strategic worker placement game set in the ancient Mayan civilization. Plan your moves carefully as the gears of the calendar turn, shaping your path to victory. |
Features: Strategically place your workers on rotating gears that represent the calendar, influencing your actions as time progresses. Plan ahead to gather resources, build monuments, and appease the gods for powerful bonuses and victory points. Unique gear mechanism adds a dynamic twist to traditional worker placement, challenging you to think multiple turns ahead. Compete with other players to develop the most prosperous civilization by balancing resource management and timing. Perfect for strategy enthusiasts who enjoy deep tactical decisions and intricate game mechanics. How to Play: During a turn, players can either (a) place one or more workers on the lowest visible spot of the gears or (b) pick up one or more workers. When placing workers, they must pay corn, which is used as a currency in the game. When they pick up a worker, they perform certain actions depending on the position of the worker. Actions located “later” on the gears are more valuable, so it’s wise to let the time work for you – but players cannot skip their turn; if they have all their workers on the gears, they have to pick some up. The game ends after one full revolution of the central Tzolkin gear. There are many paths to victory. Pleasing the gods by placing crystal skulls in deep caves or building many temples are just two of those many paths...
